Overview

Thunder Instagram Downloader is a Chrome browser extension that allows users to download publicly visible media from Instagram. This policy explains what data the extension accesses and how it is handled.

Data We Do NOT Collect

Thunder Instagram Downloader does not:

• Collect, store, or transmit any personal information
• Track browsing history or user behavior
• Send any data to third-party servers or analytics services
• Use cookies or persistent identifiers
• Access Instagram login credentials or session tokens beyond what is required to fetch media URLs

Permissions and Their Purpose

• downloads — Required to save media files to the user's Downloads folder via the Chrome downloads API.
• storage — Used to persist the user's preferred save folder name between browser sessions. This data never leaves the device.
• webRequest — Used to intercept media CDN URLs on instagram.com so that video files can be identified and downloaded. No request data is stored or transmitted.
• activeTab — Allows the extension to detect whether the current tab is on instagram.com in order to show the status indicator in the popup.
• notifications — Used to display a Chrome notification when a download completes successfully.
• host_permissions: instagram.com, cdninstagram.com, fbcdn.net — The extension only runs on Instagram and its official media delivery networks. It does not access any other websites.

Network Requests

The extension communicates exclusively with the following domains:

• www.instagram.com — to fetch media metadata via Instagram's internal API
• *.cdninstagram.com — Instagram's official image and video CDN
• *.fbcdn.net — Meta's content delivery network used by Instagram

No data is sent to any server operated by the extension's developer.

Local Storage

The only data stored locally is the user's chosen download folder name (e.g. "Instagram Downloads"), saved via chrome.storage.sync. This preference may sync across the user's Chrome profile via Google's built-in sync infrastructure, subject to Google's own privacy policy.

Third Parties

Thunder Instagram Downloader does not share any data with third parties. It does not include any advertising SDKs, analytics libraries, or tracking scripts.

Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the new version will be published at the same URL and the "Last updated" date above will be revised.
